I am trying to find more information on my grandfather SSTG James Gravley. He served with you gentlemen in Vietnam in the late 60's. He died in Binh Duong in January of 1969. Any information or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings Blackhorse Troopers! This is my first visit to your forum. I have a cavalry website and I am trying to find out some information that I hope you can help me with.

I understand that 11th ACR recently changed their stetsons over to a brown stetson, reminiscent of the old campaign hats (like a drill sergeant hat). Does anyone have any more information on this? I am basically looking for some history behind the brown stetsons and maybe who decided to change from the traditional black ones. We sell stetson Christmas ornaments on my website and if any 11th ACR troopers would be interested in a brown ornament instead of the black ones, I would like to be able to have them available.

Is this the only regiment that has gone to the brown hats? Does anyone have any photos of the troopers with them? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I have placed a link to your site here: http://www.cavhooah.com/11th_acr.htm

If you would like to add anything to your link or change anything, let me know. Thanks!

Sgt Wright,  you may be referring to SSG Cruz.  He was from Puerto Rico, I believe. His picture can be seen several times in the photo gallary of 1969 wearing his "trade mark" red bandana.  I recall reading in ThunderRun magazine that a "cruz" from  M Company had passed on, however the dates of service were wrong and so was the MOS. I assumed it was not our Rome Plow. SSG Cruz was in 2nd Platoon.  I do not recall his first name.
