Greetings Blackhorse Troopers! This is my first visit to your forum. I have a cavalry website and I am trying to find out some information that I hope you can help me with.

I understand that 11th ACR recently changed their stetsons over to a brown stetson, reminiscent of the old campaign hats (like a drill sergeant hat). Does anyone have any more information on this? I am basically looking for some history behind the brown stetsons and maybe who decided to change from the traditional black ones. We sell stetson Christmas ornaments on my website and if any 11th ACR troopers would be interested in a brown ornament instead of the black ones, I would like to be able to have them available.

Is this the only regiment that has gone to the brown hats? Does anyone have any photos of the troopers with them? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I have placed a link to your site here: http://www.cavhooah.com/11th_acr.htm

If you would like to add anything to your link or change anything, let me know. Thanks!

Blackhorse Troopers,
This is a response to a very old post - Still hoping someone can help me out as I search for more information on the Brown Stetson tradition in the Regiment. We have redesigned our website and made some cool holiday ornaments that you guys might be interested in. They are now located here:

Thanks and hope to hear from someone!

Respectfully,

It is my understanding the Brown Stetsons are related to the date of organization for the 11th Cavalry.  They are called "The 1903 Campaign Hat" because that was what the regiment wore when it was organized in 1903.  You may be able to find more information at the Blackhorse Association website.
