NEWPORT NEWS - Retired Master Sergeant Clinton "Chet" Adkins was called home on Monday Dec 22nd 2014.

Born April 20th 1938 to Julian and Ada Pearl Adkins, Clinton joined the Army at the young age of seventeen. He proudly served his country for 25 years and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam with M Co, 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Blackhorse) in 1966-67. He earned some of the nation's highest honors for gallantry and valor including the Soldier's Medal, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, as well as the Vietnam Service Medal with four stars and three Purple Hearts.

Clinton cherished his family and is survived by, Phyllis, his loving wife of 55 years, and his four children Clarissa, Tony, Mary, and Brad. He had ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers, and one sister. Clinton was known for his selflessness, his wit, and his never ending determination. He was a loving husband, a fantastic father, and the best friend anyone could have. In lieu of flowers the family, in honor of Clinton's devotion to his country and his family, asks that any donations be made payable to the Children of Fallen Soldier's Relief Fund.
